01 Overview
Amoxicillin is a highly potent, broad spectrum antibiotic .Amoxicillin is very similar to penicillin in its bactericidal action against susceptible bacteria during stage of active multiplication. It acts through inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis that leads to death of the bacteria.Amoxicillin is active against both Gram positive and Gram negative microorganisms.

Approved colours are used in empty hard gelatin capsule shells.
Amoxicillin is the 4-hydroxy analogue of Ampicillin, a ß-lactan antibiotic and used in similar variety of infections.
INDICATIONS AND USAGE:
- Respiratory diseases: Acute and chronic bronchitis
- Bronchopneumonia
- Pneumonia
- Lung Abscess
- Bronchiectasis
- Otitis media
- Sinusitis
- Tonsillitis
- Pharyngitis
- laryngitis
- Skin and soft tissue infections: Cellulitis, infected wounds
- Veneral Infections: Gonorrhoea caused by penicillin sensitive organism
- Urinary Tract Infections, severe systematic and in pelvic infections.
WARNING
Cross resistance to cephalosporins. Co-administration with allopurinol is not recommended. Note that, in patients with impaired kidney ,adjust the dosage.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
The usual oral dose is Amoxicillin 250 to 500mg every 8 hours. Children up to 10 years of age may be given 125 to 250mg every 8 hours ; under 20kg body weight , a dose of 20-40mg per kg daily has been suggested.
